Frequently asked questions

You scan the barcode of a cosmetic (cream, shampoo, sunscreen) or food product with your camera; if there's no barcode, you take a photo of the ingredients text. The app recognises the ingredients and gives you a coloured grade (green/yellow/red) with a plain explanation.

Grades are based on reliable sources: for cosmetics, the EU's official ingredient list and compiled skin/allergy data; for food, Nutri-Score and additive (E-number) assessments. We never say 'the AI said so'; every ingredient is tied to a source. See the 'How we score' page for details.

Ingredient information is based on the manufacturer's label declaration, not a lab result; the final source is always the product packaging. Our grades are measured and sourced, but they don't yet carry independent expert approval, so we don't claim to be 'expert-approved'.

If you photograph the ingredients text, the app reads and analyses it and adds the product to the community database, so the next people who scan it will find it too. This works for both cosmetics and food.

Hold the barcode steady in good light. If it still won't scan, you can type the barcode manually or scan directly from a photo of the ingredients.

The photos you scan are not stored on the server. You can download your account data or delete your account entirely from the account page. Details are on the privacy page.

Scanning, grades and basic explanations are always free. Premium adds extras like a skin and nutrition diary, product comparison and better-alternative suggestions.

Once you tell us your skin type (oily/dry/sensitive) and dietary preferences (allergies, diet), we personalize the grades for you; for example, fragrance is flagged worse on sensitive skin and an additive worse for your allergy. You can change your profile from the account page.

You can reach us via the 'Feedback' button on every screen or the 'This product is wrong' option on the scan result; we review and fix it.
