Ingredient

Talc

Caution

What is this ingredient, what does it do?

Filler/mattifying (inhalation debated)

What is it, what should you do?

The basic mineral powder of face powder and makeup. Pure, asbestos-free talc is considered safe when applied to skin; but there are two real concerns: inhaling its dust (especially in babies) and the association of regular use in the genital area with ovarian cancer. In 2024 an EU scientific committee proposed classifying talc as a possible carcinogen. The risk is low in a face/body cream, but it is wise not to turn powder into a cloud and inhale it and not to use it in sensitive areas; that is why we flag "caution".
