What is Niacinamide?
Also known as: Niacinamide, Nicotinamide, B3 vitamini
Short answer
Niacinamide is the skincare form of vitamin B3. It strengthens the skin barrier, calms redness, and improves pores and uneven tone. It suits almost every skin type, is well tolerated, and is not harmful.
What is Niacinamide and what does it do?
Niacinamide (vitamin B3) is a water-soluble active very common in serums and moisturizers. It supports the skin's own ceramide production and moisture retention, which is why it is counted among barrier-repairing actives.
Benefits
Published dermatology studies show niacinamide can balance sebum, reduce the look of pores, calm redness and irritation, and lighten dark spots by slowing melanin transfer. It is typically effective at 2% to 5%.
What to watch for
At very high levels (for example above 10%) some people get temporary flushing or a tingling feeling; this is not lasting damage. The claim that 'niacinamide cannot be used with vitamin C' is an old, largely debunked myth; the two can be used together safely.
How to use it
Apply as a serum once or twice a day after cleansing and before moisturizer. If your skin is sensitive, start with a lower percentage (2-5%). It is mostly compatible with other actives (retinol, acids).

It strengthens the skin barrier, reduces the look of pores and oiliness, calms redness, and helps improve dark spots and uneven tone.
Can niacinamide and vitamin C be used together?
Yes. The old 'do not combine' warning was based on lab conditions and does not apply to modern formulas; many products contain both together.
