Borate (CMR, banned in EU cosmetics)
What is it, what should you do?
A borate compound (borax and sodium borate are from the same family) formerly used as a preservative/pH adjuster in some products. The EU classified boric acid and borates as harmful to reproductive health (CMR 1B); substances in this class are banned in cosmetics regardless of dose (Cosmetic Regulation Article 15). So according to the current EU standard a formula containing this substance is not compliant; it should be avoided especially in pregnancy and baby products.
