What is this ingredient, what does it do?
Formaldehyde-releasing preservative (banned in the EU)
May be an allergenMay cause irritation
What is it, what should you do?
A preservative used to protect cosmetic products from spoiling, which releases small amounts of formaldehyde over time. Because formaldehyde can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions, such "formaldehyde-releaser" preservatives were completely withdrawn from cosmetic products in the EU. If you see it on a product label, it may be an old or non-EU formula that does not comply with current EU rules; it carries an irritation risk especially on sensitive skin.
