What is this ingredient, what does it do?
Barrier lipid
What is it, what should you do?
One of the lipids that, together with ceramides, form the skin's natural barrier structure (phytosphingosine is another component that plays a role in this structure). Added to a formula, it helps support the skin's own protective barrier and reduce moisture loss. It is usually used together with ceramides and fatty acids, and is also safe on its own.
