Ingredient

Laureth-4

Caution

What is this ingredient, what does it do?

Emulsifier

May clog pores

What is it, what should you do?

Emulsifier substances (ethoxylated fatty alcohols) that help keep water and oil together and give creams and lotions their consistency. Because of the possibility of trace amounts of 1,4-dioxane left over from the production process, some sources assess such substances cautiously; in well-made products this residue is purified and stays far below permitted limits. It poses no major risk for the general user, while mild irritation can occur on sensitive skin.
