A versatile component mostly produced from corn by plant-based means; it both retains moisture and acts as a solvent that helps other substances spread more easily on the skin (pentylene glycol and 1,2-hexanediol are close relatives used for a similar purpose, and some also provide mild preservative support). Compared with classic propylene glycol, irritation reports are fewer, and it gets along well with most skin types.
