Tocopherol

Good

What is this ingredient, what does it do?

Antioxidant (vitamin E)

What is it, what should you do?

The cosmetic form of vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate is a derivative); it is both an antioxidant that protects the skin against free radicals and a natural preservative that delays a formula from spoiling, i.e. fats going rancid. It also has a mild moisturizing effect. At very high/pure doses it can rarely cause irritation on sensitive skin, but at the low concentrations in formulas this risk is minimal.

Other names: Tocopheryl acetate, Tokoferol
