Short answer: not quite. Fruit juice comes from fruit and carries vitamins, but most of the fibre is separated out during pressing, leaving concentrated sugar and water. A glass of juice therefore does not have the same effect as eating the fruit itself. The difference is not 'harmful versus harmless' but one of concentration and fibre.
What fruit has and juice does not: fibre
Whole fruit contains fibre in its structure, and that fibre does two jobs. First it provides bulk and fullness: eating an orange takes chewing, time and stomach volume. How is fruit juice made?

The concentrate route has one further step: part of the water is evaporated to concentrate the product, it is transported, and the water is added back where it will be consumed. The purpose is to reduce transport volume and cost. So is there no benefit to fruit juice?

For someone who struggles to eat fruit it is better than no fruit at all. It is also known to help the absorption of iron from plant sources when drunk with a meal. Is freshly squeezed juice better?
